Of these six houses Jim Thompson wanted to use the materials to build one large house in Bangkok. While Jim might have been known for silk, he was also a trained architect and a collector at heart. By the late 1950's, he had acquired such an extensive collection of art and antiques that he decided to build a place to house them just across the canal from the weaving community of Ban Krua.
– World of Illusions Los Angeles
The main house itself, where Thompson lived, is beautifully decorated and full of antiques. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures inside the house, so we had to sneak a couple of photos from the outside on our way out. They were pieced together on a green and lush piece of land right by the canal and became Jim Thompson’s House. From the way our sales are going, everyone must be dressing like royalty.

Visit on the second and fourth Sunday of the month to get the opportunity to ride in one of the museum’s cars. Located in the historic Elizabeth Millbank Anderson House — which dates back to 1911, LBMA features paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints as well as decorative art pieces. The museum presents unique and obscure exhibits that fall somewhere between a Victorian-style curiosity cabinet and a circus sideshow.
– The Museum of Contemporary Art
It champions some of the most challenging art of the times and supports the production of art with a scholarship scheme. The American art collection includes paintings, drawings and decorative arts with works by John Singleton Copley and Mary Cassatt. Its decorative art collection spans from the 18th to the 20th century and there are also many works of American sculpture to peruse. The collection includes works by over 200 artists, including some of the most prominent and influential of the last 50 years. The Broad often hosts expansive exhibitions around the works of one artist in its collection. One of the leading contemporary art museums in the city, The Broad has a collection of over 2,000 artworks from the 1950s to the present day.
Because Thai women could make the silk from their homes it was possible to combine it with their household. Today, many Thai women still work in the silk industry, partly thanks to the dedication and perseverance of Jim Thompson. The Thai Silk Company regularly sent samples of their fabrics to fashion houses in Europe and America. When in 1951 the silk fabrics of the Thai Silk Company were used for the famous musical The King and I, things went very fast. Nowadays, Thai silk is seen as a quality product that is widely used in the fashion world.
Over the past decades, the museum has preserved a number of historic houses and buildings — all beautifully restored and nestled within the square. One of the first museums in the United States to exhibit only digital artworks, the Museum of Dream Space is a unique concept in Los Angeles and an innovative exhibition space. Glimpse items from modern-day screen legends such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise and even Rocky’s famous boxing gloves. The house is considered to be one of the finest examples of Greek revival architecture in Southern California and visitors can explore 18 of its 23 rooms — which have been restored to their original style. See some of the home’s original furnishings and reproductions of Civil War-era decorations.
